GreatAuPair.com is an online service dedicated to matching those in need of domestic services with quality applicants. In business since 2001, they’ve spent the last 10 years building a reputation for providing safe and trustworthy nannies, pet sitters, senior caregivers, and other domestic help.

What We Like About the Service

GreatAuPair.com sets itself apart from its competitors with its focus on safety. GreatAuPair.com offers traditional local nanny and caregiver matching, as well as the opportunity to host an international student as an au pair. Whatever your needs for domestic help, GreatAuPair.com is ready with profiles.

GreatAuPair.com offers to its users free background checks to all US national caregivers. This is rather unusual for this type of online service; by not appearing to “nickel and dime” clients for background checks, GreatAuPair.com sets itself apart.

Background checks include a multi-state criminal “supersearch,” identity verification, and sex offender registry check. In addition, parents may review professional references, see photos and videos of prospective caregivers, and see reviews from past employers. GreatAuPair.com retains a Parent Editorial Team, which is responsible for screening profiles before they are posted.

GreatAuPair.com offers a sophisticated internal communication system for care seekers and caregivers. The click of a mouse indicates interest to a prospective candidate, and they, in turn can express interest back by adding to their “favorites.”

GreatAuPair.com maintains a security center to aid families who are concerned about nanny and au pair scams. They do exist, so it is nice to see a service aware of the dangers that are out there online.

What We Don’t Like About the Service

GreatAuPair.com site is attractive, however a bit on the confusing side to navigate. There is a lot of information on the front page, but also a lot of links across the top of the navigation bar. It gives the user the impression that there is a lot more information to consume, but where to begin?

Any profile searching requires signing up for the free membership plan.

How hosting an au pair works isn’t entirely clear. One may find a prospective au pair, but it isn’t clear from cursory reading of the site what happens next, and how to go about bringing the au pair into the US. The site has links to partner sites that are au pair agencies, but it is a bit confusing how it all works together. For a site with the name GreatAuPair.com, this should be much clearer. The site’s “guided tour” was helpful, but the link itself was buried at the bottom of the page.

We give GreatAuPair.com our #8 rating. GreatAuPair.com appears to be a solid place to go if in need of domestic care services. Our preliminary zip search returned plenty of prospective caregivers. While the price seems quite high in comparison to competitor sites like Sittercity.com, it is still much cheaper than using traditional nanny and childcare agencies.
